Jiu-jitsu Self Defense for Young Children
Mondays and Wednesdays
5:30pm – 6:30pm

Specially Designed for Children (ages 6 to 12)
Our Children’s Jiu-jitsu Self Defense class is specially designed using Danzan Ryu Jiu-jitsu into a simple to learn self-defense class. In the course of learning self-defense techniques, young students gain the benefit of patience, exercise, self-control, and discipline; it will also helps to improve their coordination, self-esteem, and physical strength. Areas stressed include avoiding confrontations, always striving to improve, learning the discipline to continue and not give up, how to focus, and respect for others. A belt ranking system is used to distinguish proficiency and seniority.

Jiu-jitsu Self-Defense for Teens and Adults

Danzan Ryu Jiu-jitsu (ages 13 and up)
Learn the art of Japanese Jiu-jitsu used by the Samurai Warriors of Feudal Japan. Our style of Jiu-jitsu is the Danzan Ryu system of Japanese Jiu-jitsu founded and developed by Professor Henry S. Okazaki. Jiu-jitsu is the Japanese martial art of self-defense that teaches techniques that are used to neutralize an attacker. Jiu-jitsu having ancient origins going back to the time when the use of weapons was impractical or forbidden; students learn throwing techniques, escapes from holds, joint locks, arm bars, chokes, wrist twists, ground work, and applying holds to control an opponent that can be larger and stronger then themselves. Through the process of learning self-defense techniques, our students develop strength, increase endurance, confidence, and self-esteem.
Karate Self-Defense for Teens and Adults

Shorin Ryu Karate (ages 13 and up)
Shorin Ryu Karate, an Okinawan martial arts form, is a traditional martial art developed as a weaponless method of self-defense. Developed by Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura during the 1800s, Matsumura Orthodox, also known as Matsumura Seito Ha or Sukunai Hayashi, is a traditional style of Okinawan Karate. It combines elements of the traditional Okinawan fighting styles Shuri-te and Tomari-te, two major regions in Okinawa. Because of its effectiveness it was used by Okinawan warriors who served as bodyguards to the Kings of Okinawa. Shorin Ryu Karate combines blocks, punches, strikes, and kicks into an Okinawan fighting style. Students defend themselves against various attacks using basic principles such as blocks, parries, punches, open hand strikes, elbows, takedowns, kicking techniques and various katas. Through the process of learning self-defense techniques, our students develop strength, increase endurance, confidence, and self-esteem.

Our Approach
Students learn and progress at their own rate through personalized instruction based on their individual strengths and weaknesses. We group students by rank so they can focus on techniques that are appropriate for their skill level and ability. Students practice techniques with a partner, of the same skill level, and with a black belt instructor who will guide and assist you with your individual progress.

Private Women's Self-Defense Classes

Private Class for your Group
In today’s world knowing how to defend oneself is of utmost importance for your personal safety. Our Women’s Self Defense class has been developed so that every woman can learn simple and effective techniques in order to defend themselves. These proven techniques can be learned by anyone no matter your age, if you are not in top physical condition or well-coordinated. All techniques are taught by experienced self-defense instructors with help from assistants completely in a non-threatening, non-intimidating and a fun and safe atmosphere. During the three-hour session, women will learn:

  • Practical Self-Defense - practical and effective self-defense techniques and tips
  • Increased Awareness - what to do in dangerous situations
  • Effective Escape Techniques - how to get away quickly
  • Crime Prevention - how to minimize the chance you will be attacked
  • Using Your Body as Your Weapon - give yourself a fighting chance

In this three-hour workshop women will learn to defend against:

  • Unwanted intruder in your home
  • Attacks on the street
  • Hair being pulled
  • Being choked
  • Being grabbed from the front or rear
  • Multiple attackers

The Women’s Self Defense class is one three-hour session only. We can schedule a class on a date and at a time convenient for your group. Self Defense classes are usually held at an alternate location from our main building. Please contact us for more information on a private session for your family, friends, work associates, and other groups. Cost of class varies depending on the size of your group.
